Winemaking Notes

Riesling grapes were harvested at their peak flavour maturity from vineyards through the central and southern Clare Valley. After de-stemming, and must chilling, juice was separated from skins, clarified and fermented for 14 days. The use of ‘free-run’ juice only ensures continuation of the true Mr Mick style- crisp, pure and fruit driven.

Growing Conditions

Although the beginning of the 2020 growing season was quite hot, and remained very dry throughout summer, the months of January, February and March 2020 were cooler than the long-term average, leading to higher than normal natural acidity retention in the fruit at harvest. The winemakers commented that; “the 2020 wines generally have a robust natural acid backbone which will see them age well in coming years. The Rieslings in particular have this ‘uniquely Clare’ acidity, showing beautiful juicy, mouth-watering varietal flavour”.

Reviews & Awards

“Clare Valley riesling, fresh and ready to go.  Pretty good intensity of flavour here and it certainly tastes both varietal and regional. Lime and chalk characters burst through the palate in attractive style, the finish offering a bit of rind-like bite. Good going.”
Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front, December 2020
