One of the “Best of the Best Chardonnays, 97 points, Exceptional + Special Value”

“From a single site, wild-fermented and matured in large-format French oak (40% new) for 12 months. A very high quality Margaret River chardonnay, with stone fruit/citrus bounding off subtle and integrated oak into the arms of perfectly balanced acidity. Fully deserved its gold medal at the Sydney Wine Show ’17.”
James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion 2020

97 points”

“This wine is now firmly among the Margaret River chardonnay elite.  It’s sourced from a single site in the Wallcliffe subregion.  All wild fermented and matured in large-format French oak, with about 40 per cent of it new.  Wonderfully complex stone fruit, mineral and tight savoury notes.  Very long and powerfully sustained palate.  Classy wine.  97/100.  (Best drinking: Now to 2030).”
Ray Jordan, The West Australian, November 2018

95 points”

“This has a very plush, luscious and concentrated core of lemons and grapefruit. The lemons are very assertive, rich and intense. Acidity holds the line long and unwavering. It’s all very tightly knit.  Drink or hold.”

“Cliff Royle knows the Margaret River region backwards with chardonnay his forte…”

“Lobster and chardonnay are culinary soulmates – the intense grapefruit, peach and melon flavours of the chardonnay with its (oak derived) structural tannins act as a counterpoint to the sweet, seafresh meaty flavours of the crustacean.  That some of the best lobster comes from Augusta, just to the south of Margaret River adds a special note to this synergistic combination.  Cliff Royle knows the Margaret River region backwards with chardonnay his forte – his 2017 Walcliffe a testament to his skill.  This recipe takes the inherent power of the lobster meat and boosts it with the brash, tomato-based patatas bravas.  Power meets power.”
Peter Bourne, Gourmet Traveller Wine, December 2018/January 2019
