2011 Kay Brothers Amery ‘Basket Pressed’ Shiraz

92 points
“Tasted a dozen or so South Australian reds from vintage 2011 the other night, and there were a few pretty good wines, and quite a few dire ones. Due for release early 2013. They never sent the 2010 Shiraz (current vintage), so I’m missing a review there, but 2010 Block 6 and Cuthbert are waiting in the wings.

Peppery with positive nutty oak, savoury, black fruited and quite dry, but features a core of high quality dark cherry fruit laced with white pepper. Tannin is lightly chalky, but not astringent, and it finishes with dark chocolate, sweet fruit and spice. Excellent length. How they got a wine of this quality out, this vintage, is both a credit to them and a testament to good vineyard management. Absolutely worth trying, not only for its point of difference, but for reasons of quality and enjoyment too.”
