Rusden ‘Christine’s Vineyard’ Grenache 2015

Winemaker’s comments:
“Mum’s block of Grenache carried a low crop in 2015 which was a real blessing come the end of April when the beautiful weather we had all vintage took a turn for the worst early and forced my hand into getting the grapes into the vintage shed.  It proved to be a good move, because winter started early and stuck around.  It’s turned out to be a classic Grenache: all red currants, cloves, cinnamon and five spice with similar density and composition to the 2014.  It offers up cedar, wild cherry, kirsch liquor and lifted spices which dominate the palate. I would have liked to see this hang for another week or two, but it’s produced a terrific little Grenache that’s light on its feet and long in its finish.”

2012 Rusden ‘Christine’s Vineyard’ Grenache

“94 points.  Upper end of power for Grenache.”

“Upper end of power for Grenache.  Floral, musky and pretty in red and black fruit character, but the flex is in the deep concentration and ripple of dark fruit.  Holds it all together well.  Finishes with palate staining richness, feels satisfying for weight and density for those inclined.”
Mike Bennie, WBM, Australia’s Wine Business Magazine, April 2015

“94 points.  They do things a little differently over at Rusden, I’m quickly learning.”

“They do things a little differently over at Rusden, I’m quickly learning.  Outrageously herbal – cactus, capsicum and spice, red fruits, liquorice, and well, really it’s kind of like a whole bunch Pinot in its delivery. Medium bodied, fine bones, sappy herbal flavours and chalky structure mixing with ripe red fruits and spice.  It has excellent structure, shape, length, the whole thing, but it’s likely to polarise.  I like it a lot.  A wine of great character and energy.”
Gary Walsh, The Wine Front, www.winefront.com.au, March 2015
