“Dal Zotto is a leading light”
“Whitfield is the ‘hub’ of the King Valley and Dal Zotto is a leading light. It is the chief pioneer of prosecco – Italian-styled sparkling wine – and you can taste both dry and slightly sweet versions as well as excellent sangiovese and barbera. The trattoria (weekends only) attached has a great vibe – bookings are most definitely advised. The view out of the back of this cellar door is green fields and blue mountains. The Dal Zotto folks – they’re related to the Pizzinis – are always quick with a joke.”
Campbell Mattinson, Gourmet Traveller Wine, June/July 2010
“The Dal Zotto family is a King Valley institution;…
…ex-tobacco growers, then contract grapegrowers and now primarily focused on their Dal Zotto Estate range. Led by Otto and Elena, and with sons Michael and Christian handling winemaking and sales/marketing, respectively, the family is producing increasing amounts of wine from its substantial estate vineyard. The cellar door is in the centre of Whitfield, and is also home to Rinaldo’s Restaurant.”

Salute! Dal Zotto put Prosecco on Australia’s map…
“(…). Its beginnings date to 2000, when Otto Dal Zotto, who migrated to Australia and ended up in the valley in 1967, planted the area’s first prosecco vines (propagated from cuttings supplied in 1997 by ”an Italian dude in Italy”, winemaker Michael Dal Zotto says), inspired by his early years in Valdobbiadene, home of the grape. (…). Before then, like most of the valley’s Italian migrant families, he had grown tobacco before turning to the vine. The Prosecco Road experience focuses on varieties such as pinot grigio, sangiovese, arneis and nebbiolo. (…) Dal Zotto produces two proseccos, the Pucino and flagship L’Immigrante, which undergoes its secondary ferment in the bottle, producing a drier style. (…).”

Dal Zotto ‘Pucino’ Prosecco
Dubbed as the perfect ‘any-occasion’ wine, prosecco is the ideal drop to enjoy over the warmer months for it’s clean, crisp acidity. The Dal Zotto Pucino Prosecco NV is made in the true prosecco style using the charmat technique, and is as close to the true Italian style as the Dal Zotto’s have ever produced. The wine exhibits all those classic characters associated with prosecco ~ lifted fragrances of jasmine and wisteria on the nose flowing through to crisp apple and hints of lemon zest on the palate. Finishing with clean crisp acidity, the wine leaves you with the desire to have another mouthful or glass. This wine is all about fun!

“Otto Dal Zotto was born and raised in Valdobbiadene, home of prosecco, before migrating to Australia in 1967. His first plantings were of traditional (ie French) varieties however, over time, Dal Zotto’s focus moved to Italian varieties with a patch of prosecco planted early this century. This non-vintage style has definitive aromas of freshly cut pear and citrus blossom with a suggestion of spice, leading to a refreshing palate full of apple fresh flavours and clean, crisp citrusy acidity.”
Peter Bourne, ‘Best Buy Wines’, Gourmet Traveller Wine, Dec 2011/Jan 2012
Best-value Sparkling Wine, 91/100 points (NV)
“The Dal Zotto family has decided to make this wine one of their mainstays, and they’ve delivered an impressive, zesty style that has plenty of appeal as an aperitif or partly filler. There’s plenty of fresh cut pear and apple fruit here – really pure and even. The palates smooth and finely stated, with delicious, gently creamy texture.”
Nick Stock, The Age & The Sydney Morning Herald Good Wine Guide 2011
90/100 points (NV)
“…the wine is fruity but dry, and ticks all the boxes for the style: long, clean and crisp…”
James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2011
“…a crowd-pleaser if ever there was one…” (NV)
“Dal Zotto makes a lot of excellent wines but this affordable bottle of Italian-style fizz is a crowd-pleaser if ever there was one. It tastes of green apples and ripe grapes, and its crisp deliciousness is topped by a sweet, fruity aftertaste. Yum.”
Campbell Mattinson, Gourmet Traveller Wine, June/July 2010
90/100 points (NV)
“…ripe pear flesh aromas with a touch of citrus; the palate is lively, fine and with a gentle touch of sugar, quite appealing; well balanced on the finish, it should be enjoyed in the full flush of youth.”
James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion 2010
Dal Zotto ‘L’Immigrante’ Prosecco
“A little taste of wow” (2008 vintage)
“(…). Exotica Dal Zotto L’Immigrante Prosecco 2008 ($36). I like prosecco. I expect to drink a fair bit of it this summer. It doesn’t impose itself. It’s always fresh and lively with the smell and taste of fresh pears and apples. Dal Zotto makes a couple of proseccos but L’Immigrante stands apart with its greater depth of flavour.”
Jeni Port, The Age, Epicure, 4 October 2011
93/100 points(2008 vintage)
“Deliciously refreshing, with a nutty, floral bouquet of fresh pear apple and almonds. It’s long mouthfilling with a creamy palate of bright grapefruit finishing with clean lemon acids.”
Jeremy Oliver, The Australian Wine Annual 2010
(2008 vintage)
“Just when I thought I’d tried everything that Victoria could throw at me, someone handed me a bottle of King Valley Prosecco. This 2008 L’Immigrante Prosecco is surprisingly good. Possessing fresh, clean orange blossom and lemon tart aromas with a touch of pear slices, this is a dry, crisp sparkler with plenty of small persistent bubbles and a nice intensity of citrus and golden apple flavors. With a medium to long finish, this is a wine for drinking now.”
Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate, June 2010

Dal Zotto Sangiovese Cabernet
‘Best Buy Wines, $20 and under’ (2009 vintage)
“Otto Dal Zotto was born in Valdobbiadene, in Italy’s Veneto wine region. He emigrated in 1967, growing tobacco in the King Valley before planting a vineyard in 1987. Today his sons run the operation, with Michael as winemaker and Christian at front of house. This cross-border amalgam echoes the great super-Tuscans, with the earthy savoury characters of sangiovese and the depth and structure of cabernet sauvignon. Sinewy tannins bind the diverse fruit flavours, leaving a long, lingering finish.”
Peter Bourne, Gourmet Traveller Wine, April/May 2011
“a darn good value wine” (2008 vintage)
“…it’s a darn good value wine. It tastes nutty, cherried, briary and tannic, and the mix of juicy acidity and gamey undertones gives it an authentic Tuscan feel.”
Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front Monthly
