Chateau Ste. Michelle

Washington State's founding winery

Columbia Valley, Washington State
ste-michelle.com

Chateau Ste. Michelle is Washington State’s founding winery, with some of the oldest and most acclaimed vineyards in the Columbia Valley.  The estate is one of the few premium wineries in the world with two state-of-the-art wineries, one devoted to whites and the other to reds.  This dedicated approach to winemaking allows head winemaker, Bob Bertheau, to build programs to the unique specifications of red and white wines. While all of Chateau Ste. Michelle’s vineyards are located on the east side of the Cascade Mountains where the climate is dry and sunny, Bertheau makes the award winning white wines in Woodinville, near Seattle.

This award makes Chateau Ste. Michelle the most honored American winery in the magazine’s ‘Hall of Fame’. Only one other winery (Penfolds) has received more ‘Winery of the Year’ awards with 20 honors.

Its international partnerships with Ernst Loosen (Eroica Riesling) and the Antinori family (Col Solare) were the first of their kind in the region, bringing international attention to the Columbia Valley. ‘Eroica’ Riesling

94 points and ‘100 Best Wines of the Year’ (2008 vintage)
“(…) simply brilliant, its scents of Thai pineapple and passionfruit leading to limelike flavors hurried along by rippling acidity. There’s tension between the brisk and creamy textures, a contrast of generosity and mineral edges.”
Wine & Spirits Magazine, April 2010

93 points and ‘Editor’s Choice’ (2008 vintage)
“The 10th vintage of Eroica may be the best ever. It’s supremely fresh, spicy, and mineral-driven.”
Wine Enthusiast Magazine, December 2009

‘First rate rieslings’ (2008 vintage)
“Ste. Michelle’s Eroica project, a collaboration with Ernst Loosen of the Mosel, is now in its 10th vintage. It’s a landmark wine, exceptional in this cool year. I suggest giving it at least eight years in the cellar if you want to see it evolve; otherwise, drink it very young, when the fresh fruits and acids are at a peak.”
