Cantina di Monteforte
Soave, Veneto

The co-operative of Cantina di Monteforte, situated in the village of Monteforte d’Alpone in the eastern part of Soave Classico, has long been regarded by the Veronese merchants as the best source of Soave and Soave Classico. When Gaetano Tobin, winemaker for the past 18 years, recently took over as director, he decided he’d like to see some of the fruit from the best of his 1,200 hectares of vineyard through to bottle. Matt Thomson, one of the owners of New Zealand’s leading consultancy companies, Kiwieno, and Alpha Zeta winemaker (amongst others), has assisted Tano with the past two vintages
“Cantina di Soave, and the denomination’s seven other co-ops, including the outstanding Cantina di Monteforte, have long been a defining element in the denomination…”

“(…) would pair perfectly with exotic dishes (…)” (2009 vintage)
“Pleasing aromas of stone fruit, grapefruit and white mineral make a very nice first impression. This Soave Classico would pair perfectly with exotic dishes borrowing from Chinese or Thai culinary tradition. (…).”
Judges’ comments, Veneto Wine Top 2010
(2006 vintage)
“…has been declassified from Soave Classico Superiore DOCG, as this has allowed the makers to use the screwcaps they believe are best for this kind of wine. Its fresh and floral aromas burst from the bottle…”
Waitrose Drinks, UK, Dec 2008
“(…) excellent fruit concentration (…)” (2006 vintage)
“(…). Rich-weaved texture with excellent fruit concentration and a tangy acid/mineral background. The finish is exceptionally long and intense.”
Judges’ comments, Veneto Wine Top 2008
“For those who like the glossy mouthfeel of chablis but whose budget requires a cheaper alternative, try Cantina di Monteforte Soave 2006, Italy, which tastes of pears and peach stones and is squashy, like a cushion.”
Victoria Moore, The Guardian, UK, May 2009
